How long do I have to live in Tennessee to become a permanent resident?
Q. Im moving to Tennessee and want to know how long I have to live there to be able to become a resident.
Asked by PitPat87 - Wed Oct 1 21:36:05 2008 - - 5 Answers - 1 Comments

A. If you are a US citizen, all you have to do is move there with the intention to remain. Get a place to live and get a Tennessee drivers license. You are a resident, and can register to vote. If you are an immigrant talking about legal permanent residence (you did post this under "Immigation"), that's a whole different ball game. You have to apply for immigration, and after you get your immigration-class of visa, then you can enter the US and apply for a green card.

How long do I have to live in Tennessee to get in-state college tuition costs?
Q. I live in Wisconsin and am looking to move to Tennessee for college. The in-state tuition costs are significantly less than the out-of-state tuition cost. I want to know how long it takes for me to get in-state tuition costs.
Asked by LexusAnn - Fri Dec 4 23:07:59 2009 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments

A. I got in state tuition at 24 years old. I had to wait a year and also have proof that I had lived in TN for a year. They may also want you to have a job for part of that time as well (if I remember correctly). I didn't have to have my parents do anything. Parents, Marital Status, children, and age have nothing to do with it. Be sure to call the university and they can inform you of their policy and let you in on any loopholes that might be available.

If I got a driving license in Nebraska and moved to Tennessee, do I need a new driving license?
Q. I was planning to get a driving license in Nebraska before heading to Tennessee for graduate school. Can Nebraska`s driving license be recognized in Tennessee?
Asked by changguem - Tue Jan 26 00:55:23 2010 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments

A. It depends on whether you move to Tennessee, or just attend school there. If you are actually moving, then yes, you'll need to get a new driver's license within a month or so. As far as I know, every state in the US requires this. However, if you're in the military, or a dependent of the military, or attending an out of state school, and you keep your permanent address in your old state (Nebraska, in your case), then your license will be valid in Tennessee. However, you MUST familiarize yourself with Tennessee traffic laws! Ignorance of the law is not a defense! My husband was in the military for 3 terms, and my old driver's license was accepted in every state that we moved to. If you register to vote in a new state, that's… [cont.]

What is a compromise between the hot weather of Tennessee and the cold winters Massachusetts?
Q. My boyfriend wants to live in Massachusetts but I want to live in Tennessee, so we plan on compromising. What's a country-ish state that's not too hot during summer or cold during winter on the east coast?
Asked by saraaa. - Wed May 19 20:26:54 2010 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments

A. How about western Virginia (not West Virginia) or East Tennessee. You've got the mountains to help reduce the summer temps, but they are not huge snow makers. Both are beautiful year-round with four seasons, small towns, mountains, forests, wildlife, and really nice people.

What do Teabaggers think about federal aid to the Tennessee flood victims?
Q. Obama declared several counties in Tennessee to be federal disaster areas after the recent floods. Thais makes some people there eligible for federal funds to help with their losses. Is this an example of a good government taking care of it's citizens or is it yet another example of an arrogant and over-reaching government giving handouts to those who were either too lazy or too stupid to prepare? Why do you think so?

A. I'd be very surprised if you get any answers of substance out of teabaggers. I do suspect you will get insults. Amended: It wasn't an insult, it was an observation based on experience. And i still haven't seen an answer of substance which proves my point.

A. Resident for tuition purposes is dictated by state statute so all of the public universities will have the same criteria. Here is the University of Tennessee and the same would apply to any other public school there At the very bottom of this page are the citations in the Tennessee statute so you can look them and read them for clarify yourself.

How long does it take to become a resident in Tennessee?
Q. I know in New York it takes one year. I want to know if it's the same in Tennessee because I'd like to attend college there but as an in-state resident. Please help.
Asked by Clarence F - Wed Aug 29 09:56:58 2007 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments

A. In most states, it takes one year. You have to live there for one year PRIOR to attending any University in the state. Also, you must work (show proof that you pay taxes in the state - W2 forms). You cannot be a dependent of your parents in a different state (this automatically makes you a non-resident). It's also a good idea to pay rent or buy a home (keep a copy of your lease agreements or homeowners documents). Furthermore, get your driver's license from that state, as well as insuring your automobile there. Also, getting your voter's registration card is a plus. When you apply to a University after the one year period, you should be considered a resident. If you are not considered one, appeal it and provide them the above… [cont.]

How fast are the internet connections at the University of Tennessee?
Q. University of Tennessee - Knoxville Or just state universities in general. I will be attending this Fall and want to plan accordingly. Any current students know the answer?
Asked by John D - Fri May 29 23:29:09 2009 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments

A. I don't know exactly what their connection is, but it is fast enough that you would NEVER have a problem with the speed. Move in day, when no one was online, I downloaded 800 megs per second... that was awesome. :) The only problem is that nomad (their network) has fits about once a month and it will become laggy.

A. I live in East Tennesse, what are you wanting to know? For the most part in East Tennessee we don't get that much snow... We do get some snow but never much. Winters are cold, usually Jan/Feb is our coldest, sometimes with a chill factor it can be zero or so. About mid to late Feb we begin to get some warmer weather(short sleeve weather). Summers are hot/humid. East Tennessee is "Gods Country"! lol

United Airlines via Washington - 11hrs 46mins Air Canada via Toronto - 12hrs 05mins US Airways via Charlotte - 12hrs 30mins Continental via New York - 12hrs 30mins. We're looking to relocate to Tennessee. I know there's no State tax, but what about other taxes?
Q. We are attracted to the northeast corner of Tennessee, the Johnson City area. From what I can read, the cost of living is low, climate moderate, and the lakes and trout fishing above average. Will we be surprised or disappointed by the sales and personal property taxes? Thank you...
Asked by Doug - Wed Jun 18 08:46:19 2008 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Sales and property taxes in states that have no income tax are generally higher than in states with an income tax. The hit on property taxes is particularly high. NV and AK buck this trend somewhat due to gambling revenues (NV) and oil revenues (AK) but TN isn't so lucky.
