What types of situations might cause a contemporary American town to become afflicted by a general hysteria?
Q. well it was a question we were discussing in class but i wanted to know what others thought
Asked by blackrebelloves - Mon Aug 27 00:06:27 2007 - - 6 Answers - 0 Comments
A. Like all hysteria its caused by a rumor, a situation that has no final outcome or answers. For example, theres a situation and then a little panic, the person concerned starts ringing a few people and they start ringing other people and no answers have solved the problem and then it escalates out of hand without doing anything, it just derives out of a word spoken. Just like a broadcast saying there is a UFO at the beach, everyone heads there but they don't know if it is really their.I learn t this in collective behavior in sociology.

A. Liberals prefer self-government in personal matters and central decision-making on economics. They want government to serve the disadvantaged in the name of fairness. Leftists tolerate social diversity, but work for economic equality. Conservatives prefer self-government on economic issues, but want official standards in personal matters. They want the government to defend the community from threats to its moral fiber.

A. The first two thoughts I had for artists that define it are Jenny Holzer, for whom I have a deep affinity, and Barbara Kruger. For the opposite, Banksy, though that's most likely controversial. I'll let you decide why and pick the pieces.
