Region is most commonly a geographical term that is used in various ways among the different branches of geography. In general, a region may be seen as a collection of smaller units (as in "the New England states") or as one part of a larger whole (as in "the New England region of the United States"). Regions can be defined by physical characteristics, human characteristics, and functional characteristics. As a way of describing spatial areas, the concept of regions is important and widely used among the many branches of geography, each of which can describe areas in regional terms. For example, ecoregion is a term used in environmental geography, cultural region in cultural geography, bioregion in biogeography, and so on. The field of geography that studies regions themselves is called regional geography.

In the fields of physical geography, ecology, biogeography, zoogeography, and environmental geography, regions tend to be based on natural features such as ecosystems or biotopes, biomes, drainage basins, mountain ranges, soil types.

A. in the USA Ohio, particulary near kentucky, cincy Pretty much a lot of places down south, you can pick, texas, alabama, georgia, doesnt matter. Up north people hide it better. In general in north dakota people are much more nicer about everything. So they arent full blown racist. But they will let you know you don't fit when they are drunk. Typical.

Is granting sovereignty to Kurdistan and other regions within Iraq a good idea?
Q. Many people have proposed the idea of granting sovereignty to different regions within Iraq. I'm on the fence with this idea as I do not fully understand the cultural diversity in Iraq. I will say that Iraq gained sovereignty from Britain in 1932, the Kurd's have been without a country for some time and Saddam had been using tribal leadership to hold Iraq together under his rule. What are the pros and cons of granting sovereignty to the different regions within Iraq?

A. Yes, I believe that the Iraqi people and government should accept a loose federation of separate states. There could be a central government which would have the authority to distribute oil revenues and perform administrative functions which are common to all three regions. However, the three regions would be independent states which would individually set their specific executive, judicial and legislative functions.
