American Psycho (1991) is a psychological thriller and satirical novel by Bret Easton Ellis. The story is told in the first person by fictitious serial killer and Manhattan businessman Patrick Bateman. The graphic violence and sexual content generated much controversy before and since publication. A film adaptation was released in 2000 to generally favorable reviews; it was presented in a more figurative and analogously implicit manner and did not convey the explicit sex and violence scenes as literally graphic as in the novel. Q. I want to be Patrick Bateman from American Psycho for Halloween and just would like a little help with the details. Kind of suit, color, tie, etc. Anyone who is familiar with this movie, character or has been Mr. Bateman already for Halloween would be a great help! Thank you so much! Asked by Brandon W - Sat Sep 20 22:10:33 2008 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments A. Great Idea. My friend is going to be Patrick Bateman for Halloween this year. What we did was went to JcPenny's and got a striped navy blue suit, blue and white striped shirt, Burgundy spenders, Burgundy and white tie,and a white almost clear rain coat. We went to the costume store and got fake blood, an axe, and a 80's cellphone because we couldn't find the headphones. We're going to take the fake blood and put if all over the coat, axe, his hands and face. Everything was easy to find and we didn't spend very much money. Good luck, and again great idea. Answered by WestCoastGirl - Tue Sep 23 19:06:57 2008 What is your opinion of the book "American Psycho"? Q. I really enjoyed it. I am not talking about the extreme gore or the violence against women. That was a bit repulsive. I am talking about the psychological horror, the mesmerising prose and the sense of mystery and wonder that the book left me with. What is your opinion of this book? Asked by abluebobcat - Wed Apr 25 11:55:48 2007 - - 27 Answers - 0 Comments A. I had a hard time stomaching the blatant commercialism, the constant barrage of luxury product name brands. I understand how the author used that as a device to poke fun, but I couldn't stand it. The gore part was more interesting - that's the macabre part of me. ;) Answered by Sally - Wed Apr 25 13:52:09 2007 If you had to diagnose Patrick Batman from the BOOK American Psycho how woudl you do it?
Q. In the book it seems like it is all in his head. All the killings that is so he is not really a murderer or is he. what type of diagnosis would you give him based off the DSM IV?? Asked by The Tribe - Sat May 3 03:49:14 2008 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments A. I haven't read the book, but I have seen the movie. In the movie he commits the murders and it is not in his head. Given that the murders are real: I would diagnose him as having an antisocial personality because: 1. He fails to conform to social norms of society 2. He is deceitful and repeatedly lies for personal profit 3. He is irritable or aggressive 4. He has a reckless disregard for the safety of others 5. And he has a lack of remorse According to the DSM-IV, he only has to meet three of the criteria, which I feel he does. Most serial killers fall into this category of personality disorder. The prognosis is very grim, which is why we have no choice as a society but to lock them up. There is no "cure" or known therapy that has a great… [cont.] Answered by Nicole B - Sun May 4 14:01:48 2008 From Yahoo Answer Search: "American Psycho"
