What colors do I use for a house built in 1879?
Q. My house is a brick victorian style home. I need to paint the shutters, window trim, front storm doors, etc. What colors would have been used for this style home?

A. white is the most popular, but I would think you could use earth tones as well...like greens, browns,or a nice deep red or blue, and you don't have to paint the door the same color as the window trim/ shutters , you could paint it a different complimentary shade or a similar color but deeper ... a nice deep color on the door make a nice strong statement and focal point !best wishes!

Where is the cc mint mark on a 1879 liberty head silver dollar?
Q. My great aunt passed away like five years ago and she was like ninety five. Well we found some of her old belongings and she has a bunch of these old coins. I researched on it and it said if you have the cc marking on it, then it is worth a lot of money. I don't know where the marking is so hopefully you can help me. First one that has an answer of where it is even if you do not put detail, will get the best answer.

A. On Morgan dollars 1878-1904 the mint mark is on the eagle side below the wreath near the bottom of the coin. No mint mark means the Philadelphia mint.

Can anyone tell me the value of a 1879 Las Vegas silver dollar?
Q. Or at least direct me to a website where I can find out?
Asked by hlndr - Tue Apr 3 12:10:14 2007 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments

A. It depends on the condition of the coin and the mint mark. There are also just a boatload of varieties for this year. So I would suggest you take it to a coin dealer and get his/her opinion. By the way there is no such thing as a Las Vegas silver dollar unless it is from the Bunion hoard and it was certified as being from the hoard. Just to get an idea of the possible value you could go to PCGS.com and look the coin up in their price list. Based on personal opinion I think most of their prices are over stated. Have fun.

A. Quite simple - a ship from the Cape, perhaps stopping off at the coaling stations of Mombasa and Aden - and then on to whichever Indian port was nearest - probably Bombay. Then by train to Peshawar and the rest either on foot, if infantry, or mounted if cavalry. The whole journey a matter of a couple of weeks. maybe ten days.

how do i know if my 1879 morgan silver dollar is worth anything?
Q. how do i determine its value? how do i clean it? thanks!
Asked by chad.roscoe - Sat Feb 13 17:29:01 2010 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments

A. First of all you do not clean it, for then it would be only junk silver. Never clean coins. You need to look on the reverse of the coin, that is the eagle side and near the bottom under the wreath is where the mint mark is if any. The 1879, 1879-O and the 1879-S are worth $15 to $21 dollars in circulated grades. The 1879-CC starts around $125 and goes up from there.

A. That's hard to say, you best take some detailed pictures and check some Antique-shops. (They're very good in offering low prices by the way...) As a woodworking fanatic I knew someone who restored old furniture. He told me that price of old furniture changes from time to time. One year he had to trash old furniture for his boss and... 15 years later... he had to repair a lot of the same type of furniture for the same boss since it became expensive. Another 10 years later... it was almost worthless again. Maybe... you could also ask 3-4 antique shops and after that see what you could get for it on a site like Ebay. Additional... I did find the The Herman Leive House, Mr. Leive was one of the three original founders of the Cochran… [cont.]

A. In 1840, British scientist Warren de la Rue enclosed a platinum coil in a vacuum tube and passed an electric current through it. The design was based on the concept that the high melting point of platinum would allow it to operate at high temperatures and that the evacuated chamber would contain fewer gas molecules to react with the platinum, improving its longevity. Although an efficient design, the cost of the platinum made it impractical for commercial use. In 1841 Frederick de Moleyns of England was granted the first patent for an incandescent lamp, with a design using powdered charcoal heated between two platinum wires contained within a vacuum bulb. In 1851 Jean Eugene Robert-Houdin publicly demonstrated incandescent light bulbs on… [cont.]

A. He knew that France would seek revenge for the taking of Alsace-Lorraine, but that she had no hope of success without an ally. He bound all potential allies of France to his new Germany to prevent combinations against him by a series of conventions or carefully worded treaties. William II, disgusting little bastard, drove Bismarck out in 1894 and then proved unable to hold the "Iron Chancellor's" delicately balance system together with the result that there was not one alliance, but two, with France and Russia being the other alliance. The resultant tensions produced the First World War.
